Pamela Hoodless Lab

The Hoodless laboratory is primarily interested in the early stages of mammalian development, from one cell through to gastrulation, and organogenesis, in particular, focusing on the heart and gut.

In general, the laboratory is interested in early events in mammalian development and the signalling pathways that regulate these processes. The laboratory's main interests revolve around node formation and function in the early mouse gastrula, early endoderm formation and patterning, and cardiac patterning.

Pamela Hoodless, Ph.D.

Project Co-Leader

Dr. Hoodless is a Senior Scientist in the Terry Fox Laboratory at the BC Cancer Agency with a cross-appointment to the Department of Medical Genetics at University of British Columbia.

Jim Rupert, Ph.D.

Collaborator, Dept. of Human Kinetic, University of British Columbia

Dr. Rupert has recently moved from the Hoodless laboratory to the School of Human Kinetics at the University of British Columbia. He remains involved in the Mouse Atlas project and is working on the analysis of the muscle, lung and heart libraries. Other research interests include the application of SAGE technology to the study of muscle fatigue in trained athletes.

Rebecca Cullum, B.Sc.

Research Assistant II

Rebecca Cullum is working on library analysis with a focus on transcription and developmental regulatory factors. She is also involved in tissue preparation and PCR based tag validations.

Juan Hou, Ph.D.

Postdoctoral Fellow

Juan Hou joined Hoodless Lab in early 2004. She is interested in early event of mammalian development, especially the formation, the lineage and functional properties of the mouse gastrula organizer. She is involved in node-relative tissue collection and those libraries analysis.

Pavle Vrljicak, M.Sc.

Graduate Student

Pavle Vrljicak joined the Hoodless lab as a PhD student in late 2003 after completing his MSc at McGill University, where he worked on kidney development. He is interested in the role of transcription factors in organogenesis. He is currently involved in tissue collection and analysis of the early kidney and lung libraries, as well as the analysis and validation of the heart libraries.
